6 DIY Projects That Will Boost Your Home’s Value

When we tend to think about redecorating or updating our household, we often look at it as more of a chore or a possible expensive complicated task. These DIY projects and tips are some relatively cost effective and simple additions that can help bring more value to your home without the headache:

1.Renovate the Kitchen

Your kitchen is one of the first rooms that buyers look at, so if you are looking to give your home a value boost, starting there would be a great idea.

If you are looking for some cost-effective solutions, changes to the handles or doors on the cabinets or switching to an upgraded faucet can add value. On a grander scale installing a backsplash, painting/upgrading your cabinetry, or updating the kitchen appliances to stainless steel can really jazz it up.

2.Improve Your Bathroom

The bathroom is a close second to the kitchen when people search for a home. You might consider a few simple upgrades, like replacing your shower head or faucet. More involved upgrades would be to replace the toilet, update the flooring, and/or install additional storage. Adding an entire bathroom to your home is a surefire way to boost the overall value!

3.Do Some Landscaping

Simple tasks like mowing the lawn or trimming the hedges are simple tasks that improve the exterior appearance of your home. More involved landscaping such as spreading mulch, planting flowers and shrubs, or adding a stone finish to your planters are great ways to increase the value of your home.

4.Upgrade Your Gutters

Our gutters are often in the back of our minds as homeowners - we don’t tend to think about them as often. However, our gutters do a lot of behind the scenes work to ensure all water and waste is diverted away from our homes.

Your gutters protect your home’s exterior from the possibility of mildew and mold growth, and possible flooding. Cleaning your gutters is one of the easier tasks that can be done to add appeal to your home and it really doesn’t cost you anything (except you might lose a few calories which can’t be too bad!) Replacing/repairing your gutters and adding special features such as guards or splash blocks might cost a bit more and take additional time, but these improvements will certainly add value.

5.Update Lighting Fixtures

Update old, outdated light fixtures with more modern and efficient lighting. You might consider replacing dull lights with better quality LED lights.

6.Remove Popcorn Ceilings

This is an easy and cost-effective DIY project that will increase the appeal of your home. Popcorn ceilings are outdated, and many homebuyers aren’t a fan of them.
